Just in case anyone missed it, I was joking about the British names for butterscotch and pudding. I thought I should mention it before I get any nasty e-mails.

Lately I have been really into pudding. I don't know why. Maybe it's just the creamy deliciousness.
Did you know that in the U.K., "pudding" is a word that refers to dessert, though they do have dishes they use it specifically for too. Except for what we call pudding in North America, that they call "creamy fodsworth". As for my favourite flavour, butterscotch, they call that "welsh rum". So if someone from the U.K. ever offers you a yummy bowl of "welsh rum creamy fodsworth", you know what they're talking about.

Gravity is holding me down, man! And I don't mean that in an entirely good way. It's just something that's been weighing on my mind, how cool it would be to just be able to float, let alone possibly soar through the sky. I don't know about you, but sometimes I can really feel it pulling down on me, denying me all that free movement in the third dimension would bring. Don't get me wrong though. I appreciate gravity and the fact that I can thank it for helping me to exist, but it would be nice to be able to break away more often.
I know this isn't a particularly heavy topic, but it was just something I wanted to mention.

Currently I'm really disgusted with the premier of Alberta (my province), Ralph Klein, for writing a letter of support to the Americans for this illegal war. International relations are a federal matter, not provincial, and our country has already taken a stand on this matter. I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he wrote it out of true support for our neighbours, but his history shows that he's likely more concerned about investment money continuing to flow into our province. Money over morals. Sickening. Any more war criminals you'd like to give comfort to, Ralph?
I'm also really tired of conservative hawks yapping on about how we should be supporting our allies, our friends, by sending troops over, that we're deserting them in their hour of need. Give me a friggin' break. As others have said repeatedly before me, friendship isn't about blindly following someone into doing something reckless and stupid. If Dubya wanted to drive drunk, would we be bad friends for not giving him the keys? Friendship is also about listening to your friends and taking their advice into consideration, something I don't see the American government doing. Hell, Donald Rumsfeld is almost wetting himself in orgasmic delight over this whole thing.
Besides that, do they really need us? The U.S. vs. Iraq is like a professional wrestler vs. a grade 6 bully, and Canada is like a studious grade 9 student. Is Stone Cold really that desperate for our help? I know, it's more symbolic than anything else, but guess what? It's not our war! Iraq is less of a threat to us than it is to the States, and it's no threat to them! 8000 Iraqi soldiers surrendered in one day! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! This is just bloody insane!
Finally, I'm really tired of the word "regime". I know it's purely propaganda, but notice how nobody ever refers to "the Iraqi government"? "Regime change" probably tested better than "government change" with the focus groups.

I'm like a vampire, but with fruit. I can't just eat an apple, I have to bite down, suck the juice out in that area, then munch on it before moving on to the next side. With oranges, I cut them into quarters, bite and suck, then chew on the delicious pulp. Bananas however I'll eat normally.
Why am I sharing this little tidbit? Because I care enough to share my deepest, darkest secrets.

If you read this journal, you may have noticed I haven't really touched on the whole U.S./Iraq situation. Frankly I don't want to turn it into my political rantings, and I don't want to drive away what few readers I have. That being said, I have some stuff to say and what's the point in blogging and not saying anything?
Right now, I've never been more proud of our current prime minister. He has stated firmly that Canada will not be sending troops to fight in Iraq as things stand, saying "If military action proceeds without a new resolution of the Security Council, Canada will not participate." Not that we'll be missed, because honestly our military is underfunded like crazy, but it's great to see our PM not kissing Bush's butt (Hi, Tony Blair). Of course this comes with the usual conservative moaning and complaining, but hey, tough patooties. Since when has "supporting our friends" meant going along merrily with every stupid thing they do? If the United States and Great Britain jumped off a bridge, should we jump off along with them? Give me a break.
Do I think Saddam Hussein is a murderous dictator? Hell yes. Do I think he's a danger to world peace or American security? Hell no. The day I believe he's a threat to the U.S. is the day I see Iraqi tanks rolling into Washington.
I don't buy Bush's reasons for wanting to see him gone. He's proven that the desire to see a murderous dictator with destructive weapons thrown out is a sham by his actions with North Korea. This is nothing new though. Look at American policy on Cuba versus China. I fail to see how Castro is any worse than those other communists, other than being in charge of a smaller, weaker, less lucrative nation. Hey, maybe if old Fidel provided cheaper slave labour than China, Washington would open up trade with them again.
Disclaimer: When I refer to Americans, I'm referring to the government, not the people who are by and large okay by me.

Well, the dog is back, and it appears that the one I found is home too, so good news there all around. As for me, I've had a total of maybe five and a half hours of sleep the past couple of days, and now I'm prepared to go make that a nice round ten and a half total.

My roommates' dog went missing today, and we still have no idea where he is. There was irony in that while out looking for him, I found another lost dog, who I turned over to animal control in hopes that they can help reunite him with his family.

Oh hey! I mentioned an evaluation at work a few days back, but never said how it went! Well, simply put... I rock. Not that there's any secret to getting a good evaluation. You go in, work reasonable hard, and do your job as required and you'll get a decent one. Do a little more than required, and you'll get a better evaluation. I don't know how much easier it can get.
Of course this does depend on the difficulty of the job. I'm not sure I'd get a good evaluation of I was a surgeon. Maybe I would though, I don't know, I didn't go to medical school.

Seriously, I need to be less addicted to that stupid game. I can't believe how much its sucked me in, and this is suffering because of it. I still haven't watched the last Survivor either because it would eat into my quest time. Urgh.

It is damned bloody cold out there! A look at my little Weather Pixie to the left there as I write this tells me it's -30C, which sounds about right. For my American friends, -40 is the same on both weather scales. Ahhh... Brrrrrrrr!
"But Tabby," you might say, "you live in Canada! What do you expect?"
I expect El Nino to come back, dagnabit! Oh, that was a wonderful winter, let me tell you. Just the right kind of mild. Seriously, if we ever get an El Nino year like that again, come visit Edmonton in the winter. Otherwise, come see us in August and experience the best Fringe Festival in North America, or one of our other many fine festivals throughout the year!
(Okay, Mayor Smith! You can let go of my arm now!)

Don't ask me why I'm up at 9:00 AM when I have to be at work in a few short hours. Not only that, I have an evaluation today. Wish me luck not falling asleep in the middle of it...

Ah, sleep. Sweet, sweet precious sleep. Is there anything really more wonderful than a good night's rest? Not much, there isn't. And yet I often find myself going to bed as late as I possibly can and still get what few short hours of blissful slumber are left before it's time to get up for work. I don't know why I do that to myself. I just do. Heck, right now I should be in bed, but what am I doing? Sitting at my computer typing away like I don't have something healthy to do (and told tell me it's the afternoon, I'm aware of that having just worked a night shift, bucko).
Okay, I really can't put it off any longer. See you all tomorrow!
