This month is just flying by. That's not good! A while ago I posted my theory that time crawling by is a good thing, because even if you're not actually living longer, it would at least feel like you are. It's still a good theory, and I will defend it until you are bored out of your skull, and then you will see it in action. *** I'm dogsitting this weekend for my former roommates, so I'll have to make sure to bring some movies with me. They have a big widescreen television, whereas before it was just a big screen. Dang, I can't wait to watch some of my DVD's on it.

I never really discuss my age, but I am old enough to remember Johnny Carson and got to see his final show. While at the time I was a big Letterman fan, I did enjoy the Tonight Show as well. Just wanted to say.

Actress Virginia Mayo just passed away. Many of you may not have heard of her, but she was a star back in the 40's and 50's, and performed with many cinematic icons, the likes of James Cagney, Bob Hope, and Danny Kaye. But why am I writing about her when so many others have passed on without mention? I collect autographed photos. I don't have a heck of a lot, and a few were damaged thanks to a basement flood, but I do have one of hers. In fact, she's the only one I have of someone who has died. The thing is, I just got it yesterday. It arrived about 5 days ago, but I wasn't able to pick it up from the post office until after work yesterday and there was a customs charge to pay on it. It's sheer coincidence, but even so I am feeling a little guilt over enjoying having this picture just as she was passing on. I also know she likely autographed many pictures at a time so they were probably kept on hand for sale, but still, thank you Ms. Mayo, and rest in peace.

Okay, let's try this again. I'm e-mailing from work, so I don't know if this will arrive today or not. As I type, it's almost 12:30pm on January 17th. I'm going to send it and check later. By the way, if you order the pizza and movie combo from Pizza 73 (dial 473-7373!) and ask for one of the DVD's, be prepared to be disappointed. You'll receive the full screen version. That really, really sucks. If you're not going to give us a choice, then give us widescreen. As it is, I think I'll stick to Little Caesars and buy my movies from a place that will let me see the whole picture. *** That was my attempt yesterday, it didn't go through. It's 7:38am on the 18th, let's try again...

Okay, it wasn't any sort of spam blocker, it just took my e-mailed entry over 24 hours to get through. That's ridiculous.

Blah. Bleh. Blech. Urgh. What time is it? I want to go home. Blah. My left ear has an infection just under my earlobe. So I'm on oral antibiotics as well as an antibiotic cream. That was Friday I saw the doctor though. This is today. Urgh. This day doesn't seem like it will end. Bleh.

I don't know if I can trust e-mailing my entries in much anymore. I sent one yesterday a little after 3:30pm and it still hasn't shown up in here. I normally get a "failed to deliver" error in my e-mail when that happens, but I don't even have that this time. The whole thing has just up and vanished. I wonder if there is a spam blocker that picked it up, because it was formatted a little differently than my usual posts.
Here it is in its entirety...
Blah.
Bleh.
Blech.
Urgh.
What time is it?
I want to go home.

Like I said, formatted a little differently. Maybe something in that formatting got picked up by a spam blocker. I did mention antibiotics, and you know how much spam is about cheap prescriptions online (pfff, I'm in Canada and I have good group coverage through work, so I doubt they could beat the prices I pay for prescriptions).
Anyway, should it show up out of the blue after I post this, you'll know what happened. Let's just hope the Publish Post button doesn't give me any problems now...

Whatever happened to names that mean something? Names that have a family history, or naming children after someone who has affected you in some way? These days it's all about the trendy names, about "cute" names. "I want to name my child something different so he or she won't have a common name!" I have news for you, sister, little Savannah won't be the only one in her class. Neither will young McKayla, but at least the spelling of her name will be unique, as will Mickaila, MacKahylah, and McKhaaaaayyyyla. Feel for the poor teachers having to remember each freakishly different spelling, and for the poor child who is facing a lifetime of, "No, the H is before the first A but after the second!" Don't even get me started on Cody T., Cody S., and Cody M. all dating a different MacKenzie (well, except Cody M. who may be dating one of the Jesse Jameses, but I don't know which one). For the love of all that's good and sane in this world, remember that your cutely named baby will one day be a cutely named adult, and will bear that name as an adult hopefully way longer as an adult than as a child. And oh my god, STOP MAKING UP NAMES AND BIZARRE SPELLINGS! Not every C should should be replaced by a K, not every I should be replaced by a Y and vice versa, and dagnabit, you can't just keep sticking an H anywhere you feel like! Should I ever have children, I'll either name them after family members or give them simple names like Jane or John. There won't be too many other kids with those names when they get to school. Or maybe to drive all the cutesy name people crazy I'll name them Bertha or Fredrick. They're fine names, they are real names, but sadly they're not technically "normal" names anymore.

I haven't said anything about the tsunami, there really isn't much I can say that hasn't been said better elsewhere. What's really pissing me off though is the news that orphans and other vulnerable children appear to be "disappearing" into possible sex trade trafficking. I don't believe in the death penalty, but I'd love to see those sick fucks give the cops an excuse. To survive one of the biggest natural disasters of our time only for this? Fuck that. Hunt down the perveyors and the pedophiles and don't let them damage these children any more. Damn. I can't believe people do this shit in the best of times, but to pile it on top of all the devastation and tragedy? One of my hopes is that a lot of the pedophiles who go to places like Thailand for the child sex trade count among the dead. The sooner nature kills them all off, the better we will all be.

Well, I hope you had a tolerable New Year. I went to the festivities downtown and enjoyed myself, but was a little pissed off about what happened at midnight. There was no countdown, and the fireworks appeared to have started a little early. That made for some confused "Happy New Year, I think!" greetings. The fireworks also left a little to be desired, but I may have just been spoiled by last year's. There is one good start to the year though. I'm finished training people for now! Yay! And I have all two-day weekends! Or I did, but someone asked me if I could work for them this Friday and I said okay. So three two-day weekends in a row! Yay! Just think of how much sleep I'm going to get... You know you're getting older when you look forward to weekends for the sleep they afford. It'll be so nice. Heck, I can lay my head on my desk right now and go for a snooze. Well, I can't, but you know what I mean. *** Just a friendly little reminder... The word "lose" only has one "o," as in "I hope I don't lose my gloves." If you add an extra "o" the word then becomes "loose," as in "These gloves don't fit, they are too loose." I can't believe how often I come across that extra "o." It's getting to be so often "lose" is starting to look wrong. That's bad when so many people don't know how to spell a simple, common fucking word (and by the way, graffitti vandals, it's "fucking," not "fucken." If you really must shorten it, the correct way is "fuckin'" (note the correct use of the apostrophe, another sore spot)). I can barely tolerate "u" in place of "you" though I do look down on most people who use that as not too smart or just really friggin' lazy. I was reading a post on a message board last night and the author used big words, well formed, and not a single typo as far as I could tell but for some reason he kept saying "u" in an otherwise literate post. It just blew my mind. I've read about university students failing essays and such because they would use that form. Un-freakin'-believable. That's what happens when people start to use bad spelling on a regular basis. U kno? Dis isn't spiffeh. It's lame. Just very, very lame.
