That stuff I wrote about going to Klondike Days and taking a birthday present to a kid on Friday? I was tired. I didn't want to go anywhere this past weekend, so I didn't. I stayed home, played some online poker, watched some movies. Usual stuff. Weather permitting, I will be doing that other stuff today - maybe. I normally carry an umbrella with me during the non-snow months because you really never know when you'll get rain, but I didn't want to load myself down today. Purse and camera bag for the midway and that's it. I don't like the look of those clouds...

Me so tired. It's my own damned fault. Can I make myself go to bed at a reasonable time? Of course not. I try to wring as much personal time as I can from my after-work hours and this is the result. Me so tired. It's the weekend though! For me at least. Today is Thursday, a.k.a. my Friday. And the first weekend in three weeks without a dentist appointment the first morning, so I get to sleep in! Not that I don't have plans for tomorrow, I do want to go to Klondike Days and take pictures (weather permitting). I will also be going to my best friend's house to at least drop off a birthday present for her daughter (people being at home permitting). But other than that, nothing but rest, a movie or two from my collection, and online poker for me!

Poker. Poker. POKER! I'm friggin' obsessed with poker! I watch the World Poker Tour every week, I play it online with not one but two websites, and I even bought myself a little crappy Texas Hold'em game on a keychain. I want to play for real, but the sad fact of my sad life is that I don't know enough people who want to play. Pfff. I don't know enough people. But I won't let that stop the dream, nosireebob. Mark my words, the day will come that I will have friends. You just watch, bub.
Of course that will require free time on my part. Free time and finances to get out there.

Yeah, same-sex marriage again. I was reading yet another conservative bitching that it's "against the wishes of the majority of Canadians." Because, you know, human rights are always best left up to the whims of the majority. There's never anything that could go wrong there. They were complaining about this before Parliament voted, saying it should be put up to referendum. They're complaining about it now, those damned Liberals/NDP/Bloc Quebecois and their damned respect for the Charter of Rights and minorities! Comedian Rick Mercer had a column in the National Post today where he talks about meeting a young Conservative Party member who wished we could burn up the Charter of Rights. For you non-Canadians, that would be like tearing up the U.S. Constitution (instead of the erosion it's currently facing under the Bush regime). And yet conservatives whine when words like "scary" are applied to them. Hey, stop being scary and we'll stop describing you as such.

I'm a loud, proud atheist, but when my 80-something grandmother asks me if I'd like to go to church with her, it's time to find excuses. I mean, I've told her before, but either she didn't really believe me, or didn't know exactly what I was talking about. Anyway, she asked me at a little celebration thingy and I didn't want to put a damper on the day for her. Luckily my Sunday mornings are already spoken for, what with work being there. Phew!

Yeah, I haven't been writing much. Nothing much is getting on my nerves right now, things are looking good for minority rights in this country (no matter how much some people think that putting minority rights up to a referendum is not only a good thing, but an appropriate thing in a civilized nation), and I've been getting all my creative energy channelled through my new camera. On Canada Day (July 1st, if you don't know) I went to the Muttart Conservatory, basically a big bundle of greenhouses but nicely so, set out as pyramids with much of the complex underground. Each pyramid is set out as a different climate, so there is arid, temperate, tropical, and one that is their show space for setting up different settings throughout the year. A LOT of plants and flowers and such, so I got some beautiful photos there. Later on in the day I went to take pictures of the Canada Day fireworks. I put off going, so I wasn't early enough to get a decent space to set up. Because my tripod isn't really big enough to look over people, I went and propped myself up on the side of the valley, trying desperately not to lose my footing and dropping my beloved camera. Tripods, it turns out, are useful for helping to steady yourself on an incline, it turns out. I wound up sitting in amongst some lovely thorny plants, but I wasn't going to risk moving if I didn't have to, so I put up with the discomfort. And the mosquitos. Oh, the mosquitos. My arms are still paying for that, and one nice one on each knee. It all worked out, and I got some really nice pictures out of it. I'm still learning the best settings for different situations, so not all the pictures were great. I'm surprised they weren't more tilted, because I'm having a hell of a time getting the tripod nice and even on anything other than a flat surface.
