Isn't the phrase "Bible-believing Christian" a redundancy? Are there really sects of Christianity out there saying the Bible is a load of fictitious crap?

I went to my first improv workshop on Wednesday, five more weeks to go. It's hard stuff, let me tell you. I have a whole new appreciation for people that do it on a regular basis. Advancing dialogue can be very, very hard to do, and I have so much more work to do on it. Luckily I have no plans on actually going on stage to do it.
When I do come up with dialogue, I've noticed one of my flaws is to go loud. When in doubt, shout.
The flaw I didn't notice but was brought up was my tendancy to "gag", that is, go for the joke instead of advancing the story. Once this was mentioned to me, I could definitely see it. That is going to be really tough to get past as my comedy instincts keep kicking in and my natural tendency is to go for the laugh.
At least having comedy instincts is a good thing. The instructor told me if I'm going to have a flaw, he'd rather it be that than not being able to be funny at all.

I had a dream last night I was auditioning for a play, but I was so unprepared that I started rooting around a bookshelf at the place the auditions were taking place (it wasn't quite a theatre) to find a dictionary to do a humourous reading from.
Now it's been a long time since I've last been on stage... A looooong time and if I were to tell you just how long, you'd know I decrepit I'm getting. I have no desire in getting back on stage in any sort of capacity again, but I am taking an improv workshop starting this coming week out of interest in seeing if I can do it, stretching my comedy muscles, and just plain personal growth.
So there is no plan to use this workshop as a step towards establishing any sort of brand spankin' new theatrical career, but I am still nervous. Like I said, it's been a long time since I've done any sort of performing, and even though I can be very funny on a day-to-day basis (and not in a "Three priests and a horse walked into a bar..." kinda way), this will be different and I may be there with trained actors.
Not only that, there are a lot of self-esteem issues in play too. There's a reason you don't see any unretouched photos of me, and even those are several years old. I hope I'll be able to get past that and just have fun, because it's going to be costing me a fair bit of unrefundable money to do this.

Bob Denver passed away. I know this seems like little compared to what's happening right now in New Orleans, but I grew up watching this man on Gilligan's Island and he brought me joy. I remember the afternoons where I'd be at my grandma's, sitting down with a snack and turning on the show.

I've never met Mr. Denver, but I do have a small story about what kind of man he was. About two or three years ago, I checked out Mr. Denver's website and he was selling personlized autographed photos. Going through them, I picked the one I liked best and placed an order.
So a while later, an envelope arrives. When I opened it up, there were two autographed photos, both personalized. A letter from his wife Dreama was included that said they noticed some small scratches on the shipment of that photo they had, so he signed it anyway then included a second, similar but unmarked photo and signed that as well.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share that. Rest in peace, Bob Denver.

My heart goes out to the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas, especially those who were unable to evacuate before everything happened. I really don't understand why there wasn't a concerted effort to make sure those who didn't have the means to leave were helped. The Super Dome was only able to take 20,000 people. In a city where somewhere between 20-25% lived in poverty, catastrophic loss of life was inevitable unless every effort was put into getting people out when they could.
Why wasn't every available bus in driving distance made available? Why weren't free flights being made available?
This many people didn't have to die. Not that there wouldn't have been some deaths. There are always people who can't be moved for health or whatever other reasons. There are always going to be be stubborn, stubborn people who refuse to believe it's going to be that bad and will try to ride it out at home. Hey, whatever's coming might end up being not so bad, but if the evacuation order is given, EVACUATE!
The devastation is so much worse than it needed to have been. Damn it.
