So Star Jones is leaving The View. Does this mean it'll be watchable now?

She said she doesn't like the "direction the show is going," i.e. Rosie O'Donnell is joining the cast and may well make the show interesting and entertaining.

How about this, a hockey related post. No, I'm not jumping on the Oilers bandwagon. It'll be nice for this city if they win, but I won't be heartbroken if they don't.
That all said, shocker of shockers, Stephen Harper has pissed me off. He was in town for the last Oilers homegame, and he refused to wear a jersey. His excuse? His riding is in Calgary and the pictures could be used against him.
Bullshit. He's a Conservative MP from Alberta. He could wear the Oilers jersey and eat a live puppy on live television and still get re-elected. Ralph Klein, the province's premier, has worn an Oilers jersey plenty of times and still got re-elected in his Calgary riding.
So why did Harper really refuse to wear it? My guess is to avoid looking "goofy" or "non-prime ministerial". He's not worried about his opponents in Calgary, he's worried about his opponents on a national level. There's nothing he wants more than to form a majority government, and he's willing to avoid showing a little national pride as long as it results in pictures of him looking a little less like the statesman he isn't.

So yesterday I bought myself one of that most cutting of technologies, a record player. The one I used to have hasn't worked for years, and so all my vinyl albums have been sitting silently for quite some time now.
No more, damn it. Thanks to this timely purchase, my music is mine again as is my comedy. Whether it's Bill Cosby or Blondie, it's all open to me again and I couldn't be happier.
The way I see it, the turntable is a good buy. It's cheaper than replacing all my records with CDs, especially if you include all the singles, and some of them I'm sure would be impossible to find. Sure I could download, but that's just wrong now. Come on. Besides, not all my favourite songs were hits. And it's wrong to download. Don't do it.

I had the most incredible experience on my way home yesterday. Sitting right outside my building was a jackrabbit, which I see all the time but usually running around or farther in the distance. Wanting to see if it would let me take a picture, I took out my camera phone because they're not normally this still this close to me.
It was fairly quiet around the homestead, so I changed my mind slightly. I still wanted the photo but my camera phone is crap. Instead I wanted to use the good one, the Canon.
Grabbing my camera and the memory card (it would have been all so very pointless without that), I went back outside and the hare was still there, though not for long. The first picture I was able to get was this one - click here.
I wasn't about to give up. Even if I'd only get more action shots, I was going to photograph this bunny one way or another so I followed it around the corner. Sure enough, it was there sitting still again.
This is where it got amazing. I approached slowly and got closer to it than I ever have to one of these before. I was able to get a LOT of pictures. Sure, most of them look pretty much the same but that's beside the point. I'm left wondering how close I could have got if I was careful, or how many different angles I could have tried, but just moving around to the other side seemed risky enough. Hey, I was please with what I got.
Close up picture.
Second close up.

It's 06/06/06 and the world is still here. The Antichrist hasn't been born, dogs aren't mating with cats, and we haven't been bathed in hellfire. Bush is still president and Harper is still prime minister, but it's not like we live in a perfect world anyway.
Apparently there have been a lot of women asking their doctors to induce labour so they don't give birth today. Far be it from me to disparage anyone's religious beliefs, but that's just nuts. Not as nuts as some of the cults that may be saying goodbye today (really, who would be surprised if this happens), but pretty darned close.

From the Globe and Mail today...

"MPs will vote on the contentious issue of same-sex marriage after Parliament returns from its summer break, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said yesterday.

'The vote will be in the fall,' he told reporters after a speech to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities."

I know it was coming, and as far as I'm concerned Harper's lost any moral right he has to govern this country when he supports repealing rights hard won by citizens, or discrimination of any kind, quite frankly.
